Seeking First the Kingdom of God
What is Worship?

Have you ever stopped to ponder, "What is worship?". If not - you should. As I was reading a good friend's blog, I ran across a post on worship. He cited the following quote:
“To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God.” (William Temple)

We live in an age where worship is measured by feeling, but it seems that true worship is an outpouring of faith - faith from the hand of God alone. Worship can include music and feelings, but worship made alive by the Spirit of God is more - much more.

My prayer at this time is: Father - help me to worship you rightly.

True Reform: Edcuation, Health and Other

April 9, 2010
Reform, TRUE REFORM!

It seems that :Health Care Reform is center stage. Along with the thought of Health Care, I hear the undertone of Education Reform. Whenever our leaders desire some new program - the leaders speak up with the "It's for the children" speech.

Over all, there is a lot of talk - and little action. We do need reform in our land - health care, education, and other types - we need reform.

For TRUE REFORM we need God's Grace and Mercy. Psalms 34:11 reads "Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD."

The simple truth for me and for you and everyone - is that unless we begin with a healthy fear of the LORD - we will not see lasting reform.

Therefore, we must seek the LORD today.

Amen,

Luke 15 - Amazing Grace and a Fattened calf...

Yesterday I was struck in the heart by a Jon Piper Sermon on Colossians 3:12-17. The sermon was about teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom. (You can access the sermon by going to desiringgod.org or click here.)  Piper spoke of a private time of Bible reading when the parable of the prodigal son of Luke 15 struck him with an awesome thought. The part that Piper said he stopped on was:

Luke 15:30 But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him!’(ESV)

Think about the seen: the younger brother waste all the money his father had given to him --- and the father thoughts a party of celebration!

O’ how I am amazed by God’s grace! God sees all my sin, all my rebellion, all my deeds --- and when I repent, God cleans me whiter than snow. God's  Great Grace - and fattned calves -  I am so glad  to  be in the family of God...

How well do you know John 3:16?
Many love this verse. Many can quote it with great ease. The great Reformer, Martin Luther, said it was the "Gospel in Miniature".

The truth is that many who love this often quoted passsage of The Bible really do not know very much about this passage. For instance, they may not know who is speaking or who is being spoken to. Some may not know other parts of John chapter 3 - and, it may be possible, that few have ever actually read the entire book of John.

Now there are some reading this post are asking themselves: "Can I answer these questions?" - or "Have I read the Gospel according to John?"

If you are unable to answer these questions, my adivice, not to be mean, is to close this page and go to God's word for a review of John 3: 16. Don't have a Bible handy? Then click here: John 3:16

I am not a professional historian. Therefore, my advice is not to start any movement based upon my historical scholarship. However, while doing some research about Thanksgiving in North America, I found some interesting information. It appears that early Thanksgiving celebrations were held in 1541 by a group of Spanish explorers in what is now the panhandle of Texas. The next celebration was in 1564 by French Huguenots in Jacksonville, FL then in 1565 a group of Spaniards held a Thanksgiving celebration in St. Augustine, FL - of coarse - we should not leave the English Jamestown settlers who celebrated in 1607 and then, those funny hat wearing Pilgrims, of Plymouth in 1621.

All these groups, no where close to perfect and pure, had one thing in common - they gave thanks to Almighty God for the provisions God had bestowed upon them.

So, this thanksgiving season, try giving thanks - to the God of all Mercy first - not just for the food, family and friends - but, praise the LORD because He is God and worthy.

July 2, 2007

It is summer. July has started to tick away 24 hours at a time. I have just returned from a vist to the North Carolina coast. One of many things I noticed were feet. Summer feet. All kinds of sandles, flip flops and bare feet. The common thing about all the feet... they were dirty.

The Bible speakes of beautiful feet. In Romans 10:15 The Apostal Paul quotes a passage from Isaiah 52. Romans 10:15 reads:

"And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"

I can asure you that my feet are not in the "beautiful" group by the standards of this world, but the times I find myself bringing The Good News of the Gospel of Jesus - the Bible tells me I have "Beautiful Feet" the question for me and you today is - What do your feet look like?

Remeber, you don't have to be a "preacher" to preach - you don't even have to be loud - take the words of Jesus at face value and "...let your light shine before men that they may praise your Father in Heaven..."
